VICKI SKINNER'S DOIN' IT RIGHT IN PUERTO VALLARTA
The Select Company 250+
Condos Villas Corporate Retreat Properties Gay Properties
800-936-3646 941-486-0505

PLEASE tip EVERYONE that assists you & treat them with LOTS of respect!

This is only about 20% (just the basics) OF THE INFO IN
"VICKI SKINNER'S DOIN IT RIGHT-IN PUERTO VALLARTA GUIDE"

Vicki's Guide has phone numbers, web sites, hours, MUCH MORE details, "Restaurants By Types" section (makes it easy to find a restaurant when you have that craving!) &166+ restaurants (here only 112 are shown with VERY limited info)

One of the MANY free perks for Doin It Right accommodations clients.

General Information:

Many restaurants listed are on Basilio Badillo - "Restaurant Row" &/or in the "Playa del Sol, South of Rio Cuale, Old Town, "SouthSide," Playa los Muertos Beach (& the latest name - "Zona Romantica") area since that's the area I LOVE the most as you have a great mix of Nationals/locals & tourists!

PLEASE TIP & TREAT EVERYONE WELL!! (especially service workers) as min. wage is under $4 PER DAY!

Dining Hints: If there's only a brief description or no personal comment they're places I have yet to experience personally. Many other comments/descriptions are from the over 3,000 people I've sent to Vallarta!

Those marked are a few of my favorites that I've experienced or have received feedback from others.

I LOVE the Cheese Pie you can buy off a lady on the beach or in restaurants sometimes (THE best I've found so far was in Yelapa!)!

If you're used to ordering your meats "medium-rare" you may want to order them AT LEAST Medium as I found medium-rare often means Steak Tartar! Why ANYONE would want to do an All-inclusive hotel package in Vallarta is beyond me when you literally have World Class dining at a fraction of the cost (full meals from $3-$10 on average!).

Montezuma's Revenge

WATER IN PUERTO VALLARTA - The water in Vallarta is one of the BEST in Mexico (even better than many cities in the States) but water is only as good as the pipes it goes through. Would I drink the water from most taps - darlins - I lived in San Francisco for 17 years & now I'm in San Diego & I have drank tap water in over 20 years!!! You can get bottled water everywhere & most restaurants & many properties have filters. I've never had a problem with the ice, salads or fruit but remember - if you think you're going to get Montezumas Revenge - guess what you'll get!! The mind is a VERY powerful tool!!!

If you choose to eat at street taco stands (I especially LOVE eating at the Palapas on the beach at Boca Tomatlan with really low prices & really fresh seafood ($4-$5 for whole fish, rice & beans!) here are some helpful hints (note that you must feel comfortable doing this as we create what we think) - #1 - make sure that at least 2 people are working there - 1 handling only money, the other only food, or #2 - if there's just 1 worker they use & immediately throw out disposable gloves to handle the $$. "Montezuma's Revenge" is often really what I call the "Toooo Much Syndrome" - too much drinking, partying, foods different to your system, sun, not enough sleep++.

MR is a bacterial infection which obviously travels well on money & from not washing your hands often (take lots of those little towelettes or better & stronger than those - a bottle of the waterless hand sanitizer (Purell is a main brand though most stores generic brand have the same ingredients) with germaciders (they claim to kill germs within 15 seconds).

Another thing is to DRINK LOTS OF FLUIDS (not just the alcoholic types!!!) as it's easy to become dehydrated & the symtons of dehydration can be VERY similar to MR!!!! Because of the way I run all the time & don't always stop to eat let alone drink I've been there where even weeks later my stomach ain't the same! Hon - believe you me - you'd know if you got the real thing!

ESPECIALLY stay away from shell fish during rainy seasons).

Prices and Policies:

Hours/prices subject to change & some places close during summer. ALWAYS double check your bill (smart thing to do even in your own town!). Prices listed below are an average range/per person - not including drinks (prices have increased recently as the peso's doing better).

All restaurants mentioned below treat EVERYONE with equal respect (some popular SouthSide restaurants are not listed here as they have requested not to be associated with a list of GF businesses [though they'll gladly take your money] or people in the community have not been treated well there. It's important to respect yourself & to put your money into businesses that respect EVERYONE as an equal human being, not something to just make money from).

Codes:

Identifying different type style:
"VP's" = Vic's Pic's" - Vicki's SUPER FAVORITES!!!
All UPPER CASE & UNDERLINED = Our Favs
All UPPER CASE = Special
Just upper/lower case = either restaurants that we haven't checked out personally yet or don't leave as strong an impression (honey, having lived in San Francisco for over 17 years & hanging out with gay guys over 25 years & being a "big gal!" - I KNOW my food!).
