Vallarta has the Latin/Catholic/machismo influence which does not OPENLY accept gays yet there's a BIG "Don't ask-don't tell" attitude. Though numerous locals have been/go both ways (often blamed on a combo of "hot Latin passion" & what some described as "being just sexual" - not bi or gay of course) & some are only with men, they often don’t consider themselves gay as long as they’re tops. Many Latin males don't like to use condoms (they're expensive there considering how little they make!! If they make less than $4 per day & a box of condoms is $3 . . .) so plan IN ADVANCE & don't let tequila & risea (Mexican moonshine-a potent hallucinogenic) make you do stupid things!
